Random

Here are a few random pics from November.

One day recently I looked outside and my plant had bloomed into this beautiful red flower!

One day Baby Kate was at the house and in a great mood, so we took advantage of the opportunity and got some great pics!

Monday Typhoon Update

Well, here's where we stand at the moment. Typhoon Mina has moved off to the north of us - Praise the Lord!- and basically didn't affect us in any way other than some cool, breezy weather. However, there are some other developments that we are watching. Typhoon Lando, which passed over the Philippines last week, has made a U-turn (due to Typhoon Mina) and is headed back across the Philippines! In the map below, it is the system to the west of the country. As it moves back across, it shouldn't be too much of a threat, unless it joins up with the new system that is to the west of us in the Pacific Ocean. Apparently, this is a possibility.

Anyway, as crazy as this all sounds, we are trying to go about normal life and keeping a watch on the internet sites. I've unpacked enough of the school room to start back to school tomorrow, but I'm thinking I may keep all the library books boxed up for a few more days. Now I've just got to decide whether or not to decorate for Christmas yet. The plan was to do that the day after Thanksgiving, but we spent that day "typhoon-proofing" the house!
Needless to say, life here is never boring!! Again, we appreciate all your prayers and would ask that you pray off these storms as well. We've got one more month until typhoon season is over. I think we will all rest a bit easier when January rolls around.
Here's a link to an article about the 3 storms that have us surrounded at the moment:http://www.philstar.com:80/index.php?Headlines&p=49&type=2&sec=24&aid=20071125119

Saturday Typhoon Update

Well, it's 4 pm on Saturday afternoon and still we have nothing. It's been a little more windy this afternoon and started sprinkling about 30 minutes ago. We went without power all night last night and most of the day today. It just came on about 30 min ago. We were told there's some problem with the power sub station. Apparently it's not related to the storm.

The storm has changed directions again! Now it's turned more north of us and is moving extremely slow - almost stationary. This morning our warning signal was lowered from signal 3 to signal 2, which has seemed to calm some nerves around town.

Everyone here is just waiting for it to hit. And we are praying it will continue to move farther north. If you look at the map below, you will see how your prayers have paid off!!

If the storm would've followed the row of pink dots (southwest) it would have hit us straight on. But this morning, it took a "strange" and "sudden" turn to the northwest! Coincidence? I don't think so!

However, even though the eye has turned north, we are still very much going to get hit with rain. As you can see, this storm will affect most of the country. In other words....please keep praying!

Thanks again for your prayers. As you can see, it works! I will continue to update here as I can.

FYI - To answer my mom's question...the reason for the two names (Mitag and Mina) is that one (Mitag) is an international name and one(Mina) is a Filipino name. The Philippines only names the typhoons that come into the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR). If a storm never enters the PAR, it only has an international name and doesn't receive a Filipino name. Hope that makes sense!
